Interior graphics for the Spinal Unit at Pinderfields Hospital
26 September, 2014
We have just completed the first of a three phase project to create an inspirational and motivational environment for the patients on the Spinal Injuries Unit, at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.
The first phase was opened late September by SIr Philip Craven (President of the IPC) and Jules Preston MBE (Chairman, Mid Yorks Hospital Trust), and focused on the history of The Paralympic Games, and the role that sport plays in the rehabilitation of disabled people.
The project included a wall of fame, exhibiting and showcasing the 37 athletes from the spinal unit who have competed in, and won 70 medals at the Paralympics since the first ever games were held in 1960. A typographic quotation wall was constructed by forming a bank of 28 off 450mm x 450mm individual frames. A 12m circumference skylight was clad in seamless graphics and an 8m x 2m wall showcased athletes participating in the many Paralympic Sports, using a mixture of uniquely designed wallpaper and perspex overlaid panels.
The 7 day fit was meticulously carried out by our Digital Partner, 06 Media, using the latest laser technology to align and level all the graphics.
The second and third phases, which are due to start shortly, will focus on the themes of Poetry, Music and Love.
Kevan Baker, Chief Executive of Spine (the voice of Pinderfields Spinal Patients), who originally commissioned the work and who has worked tirelessly to see the project come to fruition, commented:
We at SPINE gave SR Creative a brief to create an inspirational and awe inspiring room for the Spinal Injuries Unit at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield. In a highly professional manner, their team have transformed our ideas into reality. Using a variety of innovative materials and to an extremely high level of finish, they delivered exactly what we wanted. We said from the very beginning that we wanted people to enter the room and be 'wowed' - and that is totally what was produced, without a single reservation.
We are looking forward to working with them on two more phases of work and are only too happy to recommend their work to all.
