A Type of Summer
11 November, 2015
The phrase 'The best typography never gets noticed' is certainly true when it comes to typographic composition, letter spacing and the relationship of fonts on a piece of promotional or editorial literature.
However, the use of creative typography on signage is certainly something that does and should get 'noticed'.
This is a collection of phone camera shots taken on my travels this summer. From such diverse places as Barcelona and The Dales; the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Chicago; and from the markets and galleries of London to our good old Wakefield. Each one made me 'notice' and not just for their visual forms but also their skilled and often hand crafted manufacture.
In the so called 'digital age', the art of typography doesn't seem to feature as high on the agenda of your average 'web designer'. Maybe they should take a moment to look up from their screen as the art of typography did actually exist before the Apple Mac ... and is still going strong
